ESG Endorses Brown for DSG President, Oathout for EVP

By Sam Xi On April 12, 2012 · In News

Engineering Student Government endorses junior Chris Brown for Duke Student Government President. In this crucial year for DSG, we believe his vision, enthusiasm, and experience working on high profile initiatives in the Duke community make him uniquely qualified to inspire and lead our student government, ultimately benefitting engineers and the student body as a whole.

While all three candidates display strong qualities, Chris Brown possesses a level of energy and enthusiasm about student involvement which gives us confidence that he will hit the ground running and make students both inside and outside DSG excited about the governing body’s work. This combined with his history of past accomplishments, particularly in his sophomore year as Vice President for Campus and Athletic Services, brings us to the conclusion that he will be a proactive and action-oriented leader of, and advocate for, the student body.

In addition, Chris’ desire to see the voices of engineers represented in DSG and his past work with administrators on important issues will make him the most accessible and potent advocate in matters pertaining specifically to students in Pratt.

For DSG Executive Vice President, ESG formally endorses sophomore Patrick Oathout. Patrick’s passion for increasing general [...]

Duke MP3 Experiment

By Jonathan Zhang On April 2, 2012 · In News

On April 20th, Improv Everywhere is throwing the largest secret party of the semester! The Engineering Student Government, along with DSG and SOFC, is hosting an MP3 Experiment, described below:

“Here’s how it works: we put an original mp3 file online (usually around 45 minutes long) that people download and transfer to their mobile devices. Participants then synchronize their watches to an atomic clock on our website, head out to the same public location, and blend in with others. At the predetermined time, everyone presses play. Hilarity ensues as participants carry out ridiculous, coordinated instructions delivered to their headphones via narrator “Steve” and everyone else tries to figure out what the hell is going on.”

On Friday, April 20th, at 7:00pm on the Chapel Quad, join in on this amazing experience.  Here are the instructions:

- Go to this website for further information and the download link for the MP3 file

- RSVP on Facebook here!

- Be sure to have the MP3 file ready before the event starts!

- The important stuff:

Date: Friday, April 20 at 7:00 (rain or shine)
Location: Main Quad
Time: The event will begin at exactly 7:00:00 [...]

ESG endorses Danesh for Young Trustee

On February 9, 2012 By Jonathan Zhang

Engineering Student Government (ESG) confidently endorses Kaveh Danesh for Young Trustee. This decision comes as a result of careful consideration given to each candidate’s ideas for our school’s future and past accomplishments as both student and leader in our community. Olly Wilson and Michael Mandl presented as strong candidates during their respective interviews before ESG. However, Kaveh’s intimate understanding of the many intricacies of undergraduate life makes his voice profoundly necessary as a contender for student needs on the Board of Trustees.

We were especially impressed by his knowledge of the particular challenges that Pratt students undergo. This distinguished him among the candidates as one who has our personal confidence as engineers. In addition, we welcomed Kaveh’s commitment to bring more opportunities to Pratt students. Kaveh’s two years of service in the Academic Affairs Committee for the Board of Trustees were deemed to be especially relevant preparation for the Young Trustee role. His experience has given him a leader’s intuition and insight into the dynamics of the Board. Kaveh will command the attention of the Trustees.

We believe that the Young Trustee should have a diversely informed perspective of the Duke student body. Since the actions of the Board set [...]
